Total Triage : What is this?

We have been a total triage practice since the 5th May 2026.

What is Total Triage?

Total triage is an approach where every patient request is assessed before an appointment is arranged. Patients are asked to provide details about why they are contacting the practice, and this information is reviewed to identify the most appropriate next step.

Each request is assessed individually to ensure patients receive the right care at the right time. This may involve booking an appointment, offering advice, signposting to another service, or resolving the issue without the need for an appointment.

How does this benefit you?

We appreciate that any change to the way our practice operates may take time to adjust to. Our aim is to make it easier for patients to access the care they need, while ensuring requests are managed as efficiently and fairly as possible.

The benefits of Total Triage include:

  • Faster assessment of your healthcare needs, helping us respond more quickly.
  • The flexibility to submit your request online at a time and place that is convenient for you.
  • Prioritising patients based on clinical need so that urgent cases receive timely attention.
  • Improving access to appointments by managing demand more effectively and reducing the need to join the 8:00 am telephone rush.
  • Reducing waiting times on the phone for patients who need to contact the practice for non-clinical enquiries or other assistance.
  • Ensuring you are directed to the most appropriate clinician or service for your needs, helping you receive the right care as quickly as possible.

Important Information

Triage System

Due to the success of our current triage system, we are pleased to introduce a more user-friendly service for patients, which will continue to improve the support we provide.

From 30th June 2026, we now use Accurx.

What does this mean for you?

As a patient, all you need to do is click on the 'Accurx' link on our website or the new Accurx option within the NHS App.

Once you click on this, you will be asked to confirm your details. No passwords or account setup will be required. After confirming your information, you can begin answering the triage questions, just as you have been doing since we started the total triage process.

The questions may look slightly different, but please answer them as fully and accurately as you can so that the doctor can best help you.

If you have any concerns, please speak to a member of the team

Thank you
